Event Details

An ancient tradition that can be traced back tens of thousands of years, oral storytelling is an intimate, human connection between the storyteller and their audience. Meant to entertain and inform, it passes down cultural beliefs, family stories, or even created fantasies. The story is fluid, incorporating the personality of its teller and adapting to the environment in which it is told. Join our panelists who will discuss how oral storytelling is relevant today.

Presented by the KW Writer’s Alliance.

There are well over 1000 writers in the region of Waterloo. Some of them belong to formal organizations and many others belong to ad hoc groups meeting informally in cafes and each other’s homes. Few of these groups know each other exist and many writers in the region don’t even realize the abundance of groups available. Our mission is to create an umbrella organization to offer opportunities to all of the writing groups in our region. We will be running workshops on the business and craft of writing, bringing in guest speakers including editors and agents, reaching out to local book clubs, and helping writers find the local group that is the best fit for them.
