What is Giving Tuesday?

Giving Tuesday is the world’s largest generosity movement. Whether it’s making someone smile, helping a stranger, or giving to those who need our help, every act of generosity counts, and everyone has something to give.

How will the donations be used?

This fundraiser will help to provide the foundational and ongoing support needed to champion reading and writing in Canada through The Word On The Street’s annual festival and year-round programs.

Will I get a tax receipt?

Yes, those who donate will receive a tax receipt. The Word On The Street is a registered charity, and donations are processed through CanadaHelps.

Is this a competition? Do I win something?

Nope! We may introduce a competitive element for future Read-A-Thons, but this year we just want to celebrate by reading books together for a good cause.

How many books should I read?

However many you like! If you’re interested in a challenge, you can pledge to read a certain number of pages or books during the fundraiser. Our team is committing to reading books by Canadian and Indigenous authors for the whole week.
