Kintsugi is a Japanese artform that involves mending broken pottery with golden lacquer. As part of the artform, breakage and repair are not considered imperfections to conceal but are rather embraced as part of the object’s history.

In the last year and a half, all our lives have been upended. The pandemic has created cracks in our lives, both big and small. As we move towards a path of recovery, what will our journey look like? What stories do we need most as we begin our path to healing?

Inspire Teen Reads 2021 presents this year’s theme: Healing.

Our 6th Annual Book Pitch Competition invites youth aged 12-18 to enter our two categories: The Book Pitch category, and The Book Jacket Design category.

The Book Pitch category invites contestants to convince a panel of judges to read their favourite book in 5 minutes. New to this year is the Book Jacket Design category, in which young people nationwide are invited to redesign a book jacket for their favourite book. Finalists from both categories will be invited to present their pitches and creations to a panel of esteemed authors Kenneth Oppel, Uzma Jalaluddin, and Xiran Jay Zhao, who will select 3 winners from both categories.
